Secure Wireless Network

When you first set up a wireless network is is Not secure. The default username and passwords are known to anyone that has set up a wireless access point. The key to securing you WAP (Wireless Access Point) is to use encryption. WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol) keys are a series of numbers and letters that are used as a key to encrypt and decrypt the data travelling over that WAP.

Use the following steps to secure your WAP.

  • Change the Administrator Password
  • Enable WPA2 encryption (more secure then WEP)
  • Disable the braodcasting of the SSID
